Bahrain GP Post Race

Just the notables...

I wouldn't be surprised if Lewis Hamilton wins his first grand prix this year... I think the title will go to Alonso or Raikkonen, but Hamilton will make them fight for it, surely. I want to see how Hamilton copes in even tougher conditions, such as climbing from the back of the field and overtaking (especially Alonso or one of the Ferraris). Part of his success is the car he is driving, so I would like to see him under even more pressure.

Heidfeld overtaking Alonso was a surprise to me, and a sign of good things to come. Hopefully BMW can catch up to Ferrari and McLaren. They can play the 'dark horse' and steal points away from the top 2 teams.

It's also nice to see the middle of the pack so bunched together... Renault, Williams, Toyota, and Red Bull, all fighting for those remaining points places. Notice I didn't rank Honda among them, as I think they are below them but just above Spyker, Toro Rosso, and Super Aguri. Or maybe I should place Super Aguri on the same level as Honda? Hehe.

Too many breaks this year on the calendar... Spain in 4 weeks time!

Celtic Woman at the Fabulous Fox

About a month and a half ago, Caroline and I were channel surfing when we stumbled upon a concert shown on PBS. It was a group of women with angelic voices singing both classic and contemporary songs, the backdrop of which was a medieval castle. As we are both love this musical genre, we were hypnotized by their singing and their music in general.

At the end of the show, we found out (throught the customary telethon at the end of each PBS show) that the group was called Celtic Woman... and that they would be performing at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta in less than a month! We did not want to buy tickets directly from PBS as they really charge an arm and a leg; I guess they pad their prices with donations. So, I immediately went to Ticketmaster to see if I could still buy tickets. We were lucky; we were able to get tickets for the second of two performances... which coincidentally was on our 2nd wedding 'monthsarry'! Two birds with one stone!

Weeks rolled by until it was finally the day of the performance. We both have never watched a concert / performance at the Fox Theatre before, so it was a first time for both of us. Tip: Don't buy a parking ticket from Ticketmaster, its much cheaper to buy it on one of the the numerous parking lots surrounding the theatre (Or take Marta).

The outside is persian(?) inspired with minarets and windows of that style. The inside was beautiful, continuing the architectural details from the outside. When we first stepped into the main theatre, Caroline thought we were outside again, as the ceiling was painted to look like the night sky. It made the theatre look bigger than it really was.

Unfortunately, since we bought our tickets with less than a month before the show, we could only get seats at the very top of the theatre. It was a bit difficult getting up there, especially with Caroline's pregnancy, but we made it. The view wasn't so bad, but of course it could have been better. We weren't complaining though; we were thankful to have gotten tickets.

The show was great! As with most musical artists, they really do sound better in person. We especially loved the fiddler... she brought so much energy to her performance, dancing and twirling around in high heels, all while playing her fiddle intensely. I was also impressed by the two percussionists on either side of the stage. They each had their own sets of drums, cymbals, etc. yet always complemented each others beats.

When the concert finished, we left the Fox theatre with smiles on our faces. The cool air was on our faces, the echoes of the concert was still in our heads. It was worth it.

For Any Atlantans interested... Celtic Woman will have an encore performance on June 2, 2007 at the Fox... Highly recommended if you like this kind of music!

Tugging at the Heartstrings

Maybe it's just me, but being an expecting father has softened my heart.

Pictures of babies make me go 'awwww, how cute'. They never used to make me think that. I now like going through the baby aisle, looking at all the cute little things for babies.

There was a news story about a week ago where an american soldier stationed in Iraq for several months surprises his son by showing up one day at his school. When the father showed up in his sons classroom, his son simply runs to him, hugs him, and cries.

I cried too when I saw it on television.

That's been the case lately... anything on television (even commercials) family-oriented warms my heart.

If my heart has been softened, then Caroline's has totally melted. Any remotely touching moment immediately turns on the tear ducts in her eyes (she cries even when people get voted off reality shows!).

Fortunately, I am still unmoved by sappy date-movie love-stories.

What more when BabyD is finally here? Just 1 1/2 months to go!

Childbirth 101

Caroline and I attended our the first session of our childbirth class last night. This was great because we really did not know what to expect during childbirth (aside from the pain of course!). It was also recommended to us by friends, family, and even our ob-gyn.

So there we were, seated on the floor of the classroom with our pillows and our blankets, beside other couples in various stages of pregnancy. The moms (Caroline included) looked a little tense and anxious as our teacher described and showed us (via presentation materials) the various stages of labour. I have to admit though, that until now, I am not sure how it is physically possible for our baby to fit through and come out through you-know-what!

Fortunately, the class isn't all 'horror'. The main objective of childbirth class is to make sure that parents-to-be are well informed of the whole process so that the fear and the tension will be eased. The more relaxed mommy is, the less painful childbirth will be. So the moms practiced breathing techniques (and kegels!!!) and were taught various positions on how to ease any discomfort in their lower backs, etc. The dads weren't just bystanders; we participated too. Our job was to ensure that the moms were relaxed by massaging and applying gentle pressure to prepare her body for labor.

All in all, it was an enlightening and intimate experience. Very informative for first-time parents!

Malaysian Grand Prix Post Race

Massa made some rookie mistakes, while Hamilton drove like a veteran under pressure.

BMW continues to be the best of the rest.

Toyota is being outrun by Williams.

Renaults are looking faster; Honda is going nowhere.

This looks like the trend going into the rest of the season...
